WORK VISA
Work
visas (VITEM-V) are issued to a foreign citizen travelling to Brazil
to work:
A – as a professor, high level technician/ researcher or scientist
under a contract to
work for institutions in Brazil dedicated to
teaching or research in science and
technology
B – in a temporary employment in the Brazilian Government under a
contract or
resulting from an international agreement in which
Brazil participates
C – as a trainee after the completion of university or professional
studies, provided
that he/she is not employed by a company or
institution in Brazil;
D – as a teacher for a training stage in the teaching of foreign
languages
E – for a religious or social assistance institution, provided that
he/she is not
employed by a company or institution in Brazil
F – as a crewmember of a tourist ship operating in Brazilian waters
G – in the framework of a contract for transfer of technology or
provision of
technical assistance or under a technical cooperation
agreement between a
Brazilian and a foreign company or institution,
provided that he/she is not
employed by a Brazilian company or institution
H – same as above in an emergency situation
I – as a crewmember of a foreign ship operating in Brazilian waters
under a service or
risk contract between a Brazilian and a foreign
company or institution
J – as a crewmember of a foreign fishing ship leased by a Brazilian
company
K – as a dependant of a VITEM-V visa holder or of an applicant under
one of the
categories above, as defined by the pertinent resolution of
the Brazilian National
Immigration Council
In all categories above, except E and H (for which specific
information is provided separately in this website), the visa
application and the pertinent documentation must be lodged firstly
in Brazil by the applicant or his/her legal representative with the
Brazilian Ministry of Labour.

If the application is approved, the Representative Office of Brazil
will be authorized to issue the visa (click on Authorized Visas in
this website), provided that the applicant meets the consular
requirements and pays the appropriate consular fees. Additional
documentation may be required in accordance with instructions from
the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations. The authorization is
valid for 180 days from the date it is received by the
Representative Office of Brazil.
CONSULAR
DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS AND DEPENDANTS
(NOT APPLICABLE TO CATEGORIES E AND H)
A – Passport valid for a minimum of six months.
B – Application form (2 copies) duly completed and signed by the
applicant (click here
to download the application form ) or signed by
parents or legal representatives
if the applicant is a minor.
C – Two passport size photographs, front view.
D – Certificate of good behaviour issued by the Palestinian
municipal authorities or by
the Palestinian Ministry of Justice. Only
required for visas with a duration longer
than 90 days.
PLEASE NOTE THAT
Visas are valid for arrival in Brazil within 90 days. Maximum
duration of the VITEM-V visa is two years. Extensions can be applied
for at the Department of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days
before the visa expires.
VITEM-V holders who are to stay in Brazil for more than 90 days must
register in person at the Department of Federal Police in Brazil
within the first 30 days after their arrival. Make sure to take with
you the second (stamped) copy of the application form returned by
the Representative Office of Brazil for presentation to the Federal
Police.
